KING KETELBY JAMES

GRAVITY

King Ketelby James’s new single “Gravity” has a sexy tone with his husky voice, despite encapsulating the difficulties of his recent break up. The layers are torn back as the lyrics tell a story about the girl who broke him, but also like “gravity,” grounded him and made him realise who he really is again. It almost feels like we are being told a secret, and being given a fleeting peak into the raw emotion he felt as he wrote these lyrics. There is a chilled out tone, with elements of both pop and RnB. The beat and electric guitar riff make it the perfect vibe for long car journeys and dancing alike. One thing is for sure, if this is a taste of his upcoming EP, we can expect big things.

King Ketelby James has been a visionary since childhood. He has always had a strong love and passion for music, having begun singing and playing his Fisher-Price piano at the age of four. His goal was clear early on and he never lost sight of it. James discovered rap when he was in the fourth grade, and by the sixth, he had started producing his own beats. He wrote his own lyrics, and soon he was producing his own songs. This became a passion, and after a while, he founded the rap trio "JAS CRW" with his two friends Sandjay Deng and Aristoteles Filipe. This group has achieved a lot, having played at festivals all over Switzerland, Openair Frauenfeld, Paléo Festival, and Mainstage at Openair St. Gallen to name a few and even having their own show on Joiz TV.

As well as his work with JAS CRW, James is also part of Starter Gang, a label through which he produces a multitude of artists. For example, Naomi Lareine, a national rising star in swiss contemporary music. He continues to produce, working with big names.

Recently, James has moved to Accra, Ghana, and has been focusing on his solo project, inspired by his past relationships, delving into the world of soul and afrobeat to process them. This is the beginning of a new stage for the King, he’s bursting with ideas and working hard on his upcoming solo EP. Listeners will be able to identify with the lyrics and the music, as his mixture of melancholic lyrics and dance beats define his own path with the mantra, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
